 Emma Fournier, Couturier-designer

After school I studied applied arts with the idea of working as an illustrator. At the time I already did a lot of sewing as a hobby and I began to realise that my creative side really came to the fore in this field.
Consequently, I obtained the CAP certificate of professional competence in dressmaking and began creating costumes for small theatre and dance companies and thus ended up in the entertainment industry working for years for Bordeaux National Opera and making costumes for both cinema and stage.

Faced with the difficulties linked to the status of working intermittently for the entertainment industry, I started creating stencilled motifs for printing on fabric. I currently make painted accessories: bags, purses, tobacco pouches… and recently developed a range of small fashion accessories such as hand-sewn, embroidered and, sometimes, beaded chokers.

Interested in salvaging, I kept all sorts of items with an eye to recycling them. One day, I had the idea of creating bags out of a stack of fruit crates accumulated over the years. I dismantled the crates and used the two smaller sides as the bag's handles. This is my favourite objet and beautifully represents my creativity.
