 Lucien Bresson, Framing and Board-binding

A joint degree in law and history enabled me to go on to carry out the oh-so-fascinating job of business legal advisor before, more interestingly, becoming the director of an institute of conservation and historical and archaeological research, a sort of precursor of today’s eco-museums. As luck would have it, a thorny path led me to discover the mysteries, joys and constraints of the subject in both its natural state (two years as a lumberjack) and in its transformed state (four years leading a creative workshop).
These days I frame my wife, Joëlle’s artwork and I would like to see this new direction that my activity is taking encompass and use my former discoveries and skills: graphic arts; antiques; raw materials transformed and assembled; contact with the public, and create a real or virtual framework for visual treasures.

A piece of art left with me by a client automatically opens up a dialogue between its owner and myself, the artisan-framer, regarding not only the specificities of the particular work but also the tastes and lifestyle of the client and the technical aspects of creation such as choice of materials, deadline, budget and degree of creative freedom in terms of colour and shape. The “staging” of an engraving, a watercolour, an oil painting or even a small object in a wall cabinet or enclosed within the decorated cardboard binding of a book, must conform to strict conditions of quality and compatibly between materials and support - must, in sum, provide visual pleasure.

The workshop is open to the public:
Off season (November to March inclusive): Thursday to Monday from 15h to 18h.
Season (April to October inclusive): Every day from 2 pm. to 19h.
Appointment on phone call.
